What we need to attain and protect these values: a governing body, support of the majority, operational principles + individual rights, laws, enforcement bodies. An act or omission that is prohibited by criminal law: act = assault or a robbery, omission = failing to report child abuse or failing to provide necessities of life. The normative framework of the criminal justice system: The normative approach includes: rule of law, fairness + equality, protection of legal rights, destiny of truth. Substantive justice = truthfulness (accurate: ex = innocent person found not guilty . Procedural justice = individual rights: ex = person may be guilty, but if unfair procedures were used, conviction is unjust.
