History is the study of change over time, so sport history is the study of how sport has changed. Study guide over time: the link between philosophy and history, paraphrase subjects opinion, offer rationale for opinion, speculate on premises left unsaid, logically evaluate the qualities and components of steps 1-3, including review of primary and secondary sources. Primary source: an individual who was part of the historical event being studied. Secondary source: an individual who did not participate or observe the event being studied. Internal exegesis: the interpreter tries to make text coherent and consistent. External exegesis: interpreter seeks to bring out the significance of a text by comparing and contrasting it with other texts: play unorganized activities. Games modified form of play, more structured with rules. Sport originally to amuse oneself, grew to competition in the form of games: beliefs + logic = epistemology a branch of philosophy that explores how we come to know things.
