Document Summary

Week 6: liberalism: a living philosophy, the context: the industrial revolution, agriculture. Same use of word (revolution) as fr radical break in economic, social, or political conditions. *industrial revolution = transformation of mostly agrarian societies into being driven by industrialism, technology, mass production: england: 1st to experience. Paradox: agriculture england 18th century experienced international relations first because experienced mass agricultural success, first crop rotation, etc. The increasing labour force has enough food to feed itself. More efficient, more hands are freed up to go urbanize. Agricultural wealth => capital freedom => investment into industrial activities. Paradox despite definition of international relations = moving away from agriculture, it needs an agricultural success base asap: this is why developing countries are having problems. Factory -> people would come from far places: mechanization. Mechanization = gradual increase in the use of machines to replace human labour. More productivity -> factory -> mass production, cheap good.
