Hist 250 the middle ages - final exam - study guide. The format of the exam will be the same as the midterm. Part i will consist of 10 short ids, taken from the following list. For each id, you are expected to briefly define the term, identify the person, or give a brief outline of the event. You should include the time period and location (if applicable), although of course some will be more specific than others. You must also include the significanceof the person, term, or event to the history of the middle ages. Answers that fail to comment on significance will not receive full marks. Investiture controversy: was a conflict between church and state in medieval europe. Occurred in the 11th and 12th centuries as tensions were high between european monarchies and the popes. Some popes challenged the authority of these monarchies.
