Competency: knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to meet the standards of practice for that individual profession. Learn best with opportunities to participate in groups, read about groups in the real world and observe group process in action. Professional judgement is another foundation of competency in helping professions. It involves the constant review, consideration, internal dialogue and self-analysis necessary to those who move in and out of others" lives. Debriefing is important in the social service profession as it serves an important purpose for those who have chosen to become professionals in the service of other human beings. Reflection does not come easily to many. Those who believe they are reflective may simply be scratching the surface that defines true critical reflection.
