North americans spend 10% of their income on food. Developing countries spend 50% of income on food. Agriculture: primary production of food, fuel, fiber. There are 11 centers of origin for agriculture (example being the fertile crescent): our food production is becoming increasing specialized. Traditionally both plant and animal systems were integrated. Agriculture first spread east and west across the globe due to the favourable climatic conditions found in this range. Post 1900s productivity increased through mechanization, synthetic fertilizers, selective breeding, the haber-bosch process etc.
