Document Summary

With regard to process, how sediment transport by m. m. difers from sediment transport by rivers and glaciers and wind. Sediment transported by mass movement is transported by gravity, where as other transported sediment is transported via a transporing agent, such as rivers, glaciers and win. Type of material and type of movement as bases for m. m. classiicaion. Disincion between normal pariculate soil creep and solilucion. Normal pariculate soil creep is a dance of paricles experienced on all slopes with soil. It occurs when the paricle of soil volumetrically expands (ie through freezing), and is pushed up perpendicular to the slope. When it contracts, it falls down slope with gravity resuling in a net downward movement. Solilucion on the other hand, is the diferenial movement, forming lobes, of sot and wet material overlying a hard substrate. A fall is a collapse of material from a clif or steep slope. A topple is a forward rotaion movement of a mass.
