Animals can have language between themselves but its different then ours. They haven"t evolved the 6 specializations for language. Perception of language: humans are able to perceive language, we know a language when we hear it. We have certain ideas, abilities to re arrange words. There"s rules surrounding creation of words and sentence. In order for a language to qualify, you need creativity and systematic constraints. We don"t have an option like tleef, dleef. We don"t have sounds like these because we have systematic constraints. We know we need a certain word order. Its not just putting words in the right order, its also sounds words, and meaning of utterances etc. Descriptive grammar: eg: both drive slowly and drive slow occur, with the latter used more by tounger speakers . One is an old and newer way. Prescriptive grammar: this involves judgements, this is the correct way to do it. Linguists use a descriptive approach to analze language grammars.
