Communication depends on the sensitivity of differences and on a real desire to establish common ground. A process as complex as communication is hard to summarize or define. For the sake of the course: communication is the process whereby humans collectively create and regulate social reality. Communication as uniquely human: while chimpanzees have been able to acquire some language they lack to innate desire for verbal communication and are unable to string words together to form sentences and communicate ideas. Communications as a collective activity: all language depends on social agreement for meaning. The relationship between human communication and society is circular and dependent on one another: joost meerlo: the word communication comes from munia meaning service and mutual help, exchange, and interaction of those belonging to the same community". Communication as a creative endeavour: a direct result of human communication is human creativity. Most of our reality is created and sustained through communication.
