FARE 1040 Study Guide - Quiz Guide: Roger Pilon, Antinomy, Public Property
Document Summary
Government regulations have increasingly limited the uses that property owners make of their holdings. Have gradually reduced rights of property owners but also gave rights to other (mainly the public) Economic consequences to this gradual reduction = makes everyone less rich overall. Regulations that have arisen are in the name of justice (done so in the name of various private and pubic rights) Have to raise not just economic and legal issues but moral issues too. Traditional theory: argues that private property and individual freedom are connected. Modern theory: argues that a decrease in private and an increase in public property is the mark of a free society. Pilon argues that the modern view is fundamentally mistaken and the traditional view is fundamentally correct. Theories about the world will tend to reflect the way the world is. When more; theories will yield insights that give order to the world. When less; theories will break down in error, confusion, and disorder.
