Lots of hostility between newly arriving settlers and the pre-established. John snow, regarded to openly racist and speculating land in the region, was given a road-building contract. An unarmed m tis group stopped one of the roadbuilding parties one day leading towards the subsequent establishment of a provisional government, with louis riel as their leader.
