Angela"s ashes is an autobiographical memoir written by frank mccourt, recounting his early childhood living in limerick, ireland, alongside his mother and alcoholic father. The memoir begins by mccourt describing how his mother angela, and father malachy, met in. Angela soon falls pregnant with mccourt and marries malachy. While raising her family, angela struggles to feed her sons as malachy spends his wages on alcohol. Margret, mccourt"s baby sister, suddenly dies, resulting in angela falling into a deep depression. It is after the death of margaret when the family moves back to ireland. Mccourt"s childhood is continually filled with deprivation as his two younger brothers die, his mother experiences a miscarriage, and his father further continues to drink away the family"s only source of income. As the memoir follows mccourt as he grows older, the narration becomes focused on his experience at school.
