Canada is known as the top producer in the world of dry peas, canada grows a variety of dry peas, which include; yellow, green, maple, green marrowfat, and austrian winter peas (dry peas, 2013). That being said, the most commonly produced dry pea in canada is the yellow pea, having 40 different varieties registered in the country. In 2009 total production volume of dry peas was, 3,379,400 tonnes (oat production and market, 2013). Production for total pulses and special crops as of december 19th, 2014; from 2012-2013 production was 5,677 kilotonnes, 2013-2014 production was 6,880 kilotonnes, and the forecast for 2014-2015 was 6,069 kilotonnes (alberta specialty crop report, 2014)(dry peas, 2013). Dry peas are primarily grown within canada (appendix 1).
