Public servants - also referred to as the civil servants or bureaucrats, these are the appointed officials who are employed by government. They provide advice, manage resources and provide services to citizens. Public servants are basically the advisors to senior politicians and administer government services and programs. Public officials also work in organizational structures whose contours might be recognized as counterparts of a hundred years ago, and they engage in familiar interactions and processes with others both inside and outside of the government. Degree of happiness and prosperity or misery and poverty experienced by canadians is affected by the countless decisions made each day by our governments. Range of government activities includes the traditional functions if the administration of justice, conduct of external relations, and the defence of the country, as well as newer responsibilities such as health care, environmental protections and scientific research.
