The reliance on systematic, transparent, and rigorous methods is what distinguishes science from everyday inquiry (more on wednesday) Understanding methods prepares you to do research yourself. Understanding methods enables you to evaluate research and truth claims of others. Tutorials do not start until thursday, september 15th. Make sure to look over the course syllabus linked on courselink and email or ask in person the professor if you have any questions or concerns. Inquiry: attempts to understand and predict the world around us. Instrumental value: learn things you can then use, can be superstitious or even wrong. You may not understand the mechanisms behind it even if you can predict it. Ex. you can know where the sun rises but may not necessarily know why.
