Document Summary

Definitions: population, size n all the objects in a study, for example, the entire population of canada. In a census, we are supposed to collect data of each and every one of the objects in a population. It should be randomly taken i. e. there should be no interference in the objects that should be sampled. For example, if we want to study about the population of canada, we should sample from the entire population of canada randomly. Saskatchewan is not representative of the entire people of canada. A parameter is a numerical quantity calculated from data in a population. A statistic is a numerical quantity calculated from data in a sample. Example: we want to know what is the average height of all canadians. The average height of all canadians is a parameter since it is taken from a population. It is very difficult to do a census of all canadians so we take a sample of canadians.
