BIOL241 Final: Classical Conditioning Module
Document Summary
There are 2 important unconscious learning processes. Classical conditioning allows us to associate two related events. Instrumental conditioning allows us to associate actions and consequences. Contingencies i. ii. iii. iv. v. vi. i. ii. Foundation for classical conditioning was done by the physiologist. Pavlov made the observation that dogs would begin to salivate even before food would reach their mouth; it was as if an early step in the process of digestion was triggered even before the food stimulus arrived. In pavlov"s famous experiment, the sound of a metronome signaled to a dog that food was on its way - - > prior to the training, there was no observable effects on the dog once the metronome was sounded. This new behaviour was called a conditional reflex because it was conditional upon training. Definition of classical conditioning = the learning of a contingency between a particular signal and a later event that are paired in the i. ii.
