Intro to learning: we experience more than one type of learning. Case study: nicole suffers from chronic headaches during periods of low atmospheric pressure. Pain from her headaches coinside with first few drops of rain falling to ground. Recently, nicole noticed that her head begins to throb at the mere sight of a cloudy sky. Doctor prescribed medication to help with pain (daily pill), with side effects of sweaty palms and nausea: 2 types of unconscious learning: classical conditioning, instrumental conditioning. Sound of metronome signaled dog that food was going to be delivered. Before training, sound of metronome had no observable effect on dog"s. Following training, dog would begin salivating after hearing sound of behaviour metronome. If spots one too late, cannot run away: grazing antelope constantly on lookout for attack from predators, can overcome this by learning cues that signal impending attack, can be sound, smells, sights.
