He was the eldest son of abdel-nasser hussein who was born in 1888 in beni murr village in upper. Even though he descended from a poor family of villagers, he still managed to obtain a sufficient amount of education to enable him to join the postal service in alexandria but with his salary hardly maintaining his basic requirements. Nasser joined the nursery school of muharram bek in alexandria then moved to khatatba where he attended an elementary school (1923-1924). In 1925, he moved to cairo where he stayed with his paternal uncle, khalil hussein for three years in his humble dwelling in a suburban cairo district. On weekends, gamal used to travel to khatatba to visit his family.
