The body of knowledge regarding crime as a social phenomenon. It includes such aspects as the making of laws, the breaking of laws, and reacting to the breaking of laws. Its goal is scientific: to develop a body of general and verified principles and knowledge regarding law, crime, and treatment. Criminology hasn"t been along that long however it also sometimes is seen as an old school approach that has been modernized. 100% perspective we"re looking at in this course: social lens. The attempt to understand laws is prehistoric, skeletal remains indicate that pre-literate people explain deviant behaviour by saying ppl were possessed by demons (performed cranial surgery to argue for that) When we talk about criminology were talking about the academics that study it. Goal of criminology is scientific, scientific study of crime bc criminologists should adhere to scientific principles when studying, principles in criminology have to be shown empirically through tests and verified.
