The sherif norm formaion study: used the autokineic efect. Light looks like it is moving but it is not: consensus formed. Sherif asked people individually if the light moved, and everyone had diferent answers: consensus could be manipulated. Sherif put together everyone and they had a similar answer, a norm was formed. Put a confederate and room and said it moved 2 feet away and that changed the norm. Asch conformity study: wanted to see if people would go along with someone even if they knew they were wrong. They gave at least one wrong answer conforming to the group. Even if one person gave the right answer, 20% conformed. People quesioned the experiment but the experimenter told them to coninue and they did.
