Document Summary

There are an estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants currently living in the u. s. illegally (ehrenfreund, 2014). In recent years, the american government has dealt with this overwhelming number by deporting up to 400,000 illegal immigrants each year. This system of deportation has proven to be largely impractical as it would take over 30 years for all undocumented immigrants to be deported at such a rate (ehrenfreund, 2014). In light of this, the obama administration has made it clear that reforming immigration policies has become a top governmental priority. The issue of immigration reform has involved several key players: obama"s administration, congress, the states, courts, interest groups, and the public. There are also a few minor players such as the gang of eight, the department of homeland security, and the future u. s. president. Each of these agents has different motivations and strategies for achieving their goals in terms of immigration reform.
