Specific- seeks languages universals in the underlying structures of specific languages. Anthropology is holistic: concerned with seeing the whole picture. Cultural anthropology: study of culture and traditions. Linguistic anthropology: the study of language and language use. Comparative nature of anthropology: goal of gathering and comparing information from many cultures, times, and places. Cultural emphasis: idea language reflects the culture and what is valued the most are expressed in language. Ethno semantics, ethno science, cognitive anthropology and new ethnography: trying to see how the words that people used for describing specific areas of experience revealed underlying systems of meaning and perception.
