Document Summary

Low partition molecules have trouble moving through plasma membrane the cells are sealed tightly together, drug molecules have to pass through the cell to get to other cells. Also spot junctions - loosely aggregated, many spaces in between the cells. Plasma membranes are blood barriers (but we can neglect this for now) Capillary bed collect drugs and enzymes before proceeding to other organs. We have many molecules that we don"t want in the body. Allow small drugs to pass through and blocks the big ones. Pores are on the tissue which allow the drugs to pass through. There are no spaces (molecules have to get through the cell) Makes you think that you are poisoned and makes you throw up. Water soluble, but have to go through brain fluid. Part of hypothalamus (monitor blood, sugar content) so it can"t be a barrier. A lot of peptide hormones are also used in the brain but for different purpose.
