People selectively process self relevant info- favourable or postive implications and avoid those that are negative. Biases us towards information that makes us feel good about who we are. Ex: if you look at academic history- self enhancement motive- focus on courses that you did good on andnot look at courses you didnt do that well in. Focus on positive information - pertaining to ourselves. Prefer tasks and people that imply we are performing well. Influences us - makes us care if we are doing better than others.
