Document Summary
Formed in opposition to closed systems which includes natural systems and rational systems. Natural systems has a primary focus on survival and says that organizations consist of formal and informal structures whereas rational systems focus on efficiency through formal structures and goal formation. Ultimately, these are called closed systems due to the fact that rsa and nsa only look within organizations and do not take into account the environment or setting of an organization. Alternatively, open systems approach takes into account the setting and context of an organization and the environment is its main focus. It sees the organization as consisting of interdependent activities that go beyond the boundaries of the organization. Interdependence between flows and acitivites inside the organization as well as outside (clients) and somewhere in the middle. Ultimately the organization must adapt to its environment in order to survive.
