Document Summary

Race and intelligence: in the 1920s, peter sandiford suggested that iq had to do with biology, social setting in which a person is raised and educated has a big impact on iq. Racial mixing: impossible to neatly distinguish races based on genetic differences, many people are born with mixed race, subsequent, migration, geographical separation and inbreeding led to the formation of more or less distinct races. Physical markers are used to distinguish groups and create social inequality. Different social conditions between superordinates and subordinates create behavioural difference between them. Perceptions of behavioural differences create racial stereotypes that get embedded in culture: race matters to the degree that it helps create and maintain systems of social inequality. Ethnicity, culture and social structure: a race is a socially defined category of people who perceived physical markets are significant, ethnic group: comprises people who perceived cultural markers are deemed socially significant. These social structural disadvantages made them less successful.
