The scientific and social construction of sex, gender and race: science; what is studied through research, testing, value free, neutral. Intersectionality: is a lens or tool for analyzing difference (categories, race gender sexuality, how these categories are interconnected and impact a person life, ex. Gender related to race related to sexuality: tool to analyze and consider how the identity of one is being shaped and formed by more than one identity marker. How does intersectionality allow us to think about gender and violence differently: social institutions, needs of disabled women, disabled women dependent on their caregiver, sexual violence is seen as a tool of women oppression. Intersectionality challenges us to rethink the dominate ways that gender has been defined in relation to violence. These conditions make some more vulnerable to violence and harm than others. Intersectionality is really about dismantling equalities and breaking down the system: eradicating sexism, racism, ageism, the masters tools will never dismantle the masters house.
