Hstr 115 dr. dolff lecture one: road to the second world war. World"s first communist state in 1917 (november 7) A lot of people were afraid of communism and russia was the first to implement the practice. But a lot of people also celebrated it as well. October revolution led to a civil war which lead to a country wide famine: st. petersburg lost half of it"s population as people fled to the country side. Communist government brought in a new economic plan that was a lot like capitalism. Communist threat was more theoretical than practical: did not have the wealth to spread communism far. Russia was largely excluded in international treaties: paris peace conference in 1919 after the great war. A lot of bad feelings from the british and french because russia dropped out of the war early: couldn"t keep up with the demands of the war.
