Cross-cultural and anthropological studies, neuroscience, clinical and family psychology, developmental psychology, and social and personality psychology. Different approaches concentrate on different goals or questions, and thus differ in their specific domains of investigation. Ontogenetic - the development of the organism over the life span. Distal - refers to causes from the past and/or spatially distant origins. Proximal - close in time and/or distance.
