Document Summary

You might have noticed throughout your study of. Astronomy, that our view has steadily grown in scope. In as101 we studied everyday astronomy from our perspective here on earth, reviewing the motions of sun, moon, planets and stars as we see them. Earlier in this course we studied how the sun works and then extended that to the stars and their life cycles. In the last module we looked at galaxies collections of stars, planets, moons and interstellar dust. We now make our final step to look at the universe as a whole. When we examine the biggest picture of all the universe we find a huge space filled with galaxies. As far as we know there is only one kind of big object in the universe a galaxy. Shortly, we will examine the structure of the universe; that is, we will see where the galaxies are within the universe.
