Document Summary

We start our study of modern cosmology by considering the idea that the universe has no centre or no boundaries. Then you are introduced to olbers" paradox and we begin to get an inkling of the notion that the universe must have had a beginning at some time in the past. Of course, edwin hubble"s discovery of an expanding universe pretty much convinced everyone that the steady-state theory of the universe had to be incorrect. We finally get to the big bang theory and learn about the very early years of the universe and how it all unfolded. We now begin a study of that part of astronomy that is most interesting but conceptually challenging. As your textbook states, cosmology is a mind-bendingly weird subject and you can enjoy it for its strange ideas. i"m not sure i would use the word. Strange here because foreign might be a better descriptor.
