Applied to globalization: culture, power structure, prestige, etc. Social stratification- a system by which a society ranks categories of people in a social hierarchy. Stratification- one group is better than another; a ladder; value structure where each rung of the ladder has a different rank. Social mobility- moving up and down the socioeconomic ladder. Intergenerational- over generations; usually when social mobility happens. Intragenerational- within your generation; happens less frequently; going from working class to upper class within your lifetime. Caste system- system without social mobility; born into a social class/position; never being able to leave your caste system. Birth determines social position in four distinct ways.
