Our government is a republic and we use means of democracy. Republic differs because there are guranteed rights everyone has. 1700"s no system at this time free ( people aren"t free) Framers wanted to create system that was responsive, secure, and stay out of lives. Legislative most powerful and important-> they make laws and represent people. Checks and balances cannot be without separation of powers. System where branches check each other thus balancing power.
