Consequently, the civil rights period was characterized by police brutality against communities of color in peaceful and destructive riots, which built mistrust between police and citizens at the local level. In 1969, black panther leaders were killed during a police raid (press); this led to a public protest that resulted the investigation of federal civil rights investigation. There was evidence showing that, fatal or extreme police brutality often ultimately rule in favor of the police officer. This explains the strong immediate protests, riots after any incident of police brutality (press). Given this, the contemporary penal event i chose is rodney king"s (rk) case of police brutality in 1991.
