Why study media? because media saturates our everyday lives/rhythms, it evolves over time showing us the history of our media use (commercial, entertainment, news. ) It is a commercial function that we put money into, it circulates information, news, trends and social norms media literacy- is reading further into media texts and interpreting and decoding it for meanings. Through this we are able to understand the world around us (construct realities of who we are, rights, wrongs, trends) Utopian- argues that there"s a variety big enough for everyone and that can have positive effects acting as an educational and informant source. Brings nostalgic excuse to hate on the new and praise the old. It assumes we are all inactive while consuming media that we just go along with everything. Mirror views- argues that it reflects society/interests and social changes (ex;cop shows) (hunger games ex; reflecting social value that accept female leads=female driven franchises.
