Focuses on why human reason can be fallible and should be questioned. 6 major categories of erroneous though: trigger happy the tendency to find a pattern where there is none. 1: we are really bad at identifying a pattern when there is one ex. winning streak (shooting basketballs) Regression to the mean: we don"t realize that when things are at extremes they will settle back down towards the middle-->instead we contribute these changes to some coincidental change on our environment (ex. homeopathy) Bias towards positive evidence: we overvalue evidence that supports our hypothesis and intentionally seek out questions and information so that they are supportive. We desire to confirm our beliefs: we seek out things that confirm them and ignore things that deny them. Availability of information this influences how we process it a: exceptional or interesting information, or that with emotional immediacy, tends to stick with us far more than the blase, we are not good at being objective.
