Basic approaches to do so: trait approach, biological approach, psychoanalytic approach, phenomenological approach, learning and cognitive process approach. Encompasses the big 5 personality factors, where they lie on the spectrum. Internal structures and mechanisms; these drive and motives are occurring outside of your conscious awareness. Focusing on the conscious experiences of people: humanistic (positive view on human potential) and humanist, cross cultural perspective. Why: causes behind why we do what we do.
