Language is a systematic means of communicating ideas or feelings by the use of conventionalized signs, sounds, gestures or marks having understood meanings. Language acquisition is the process of learning a language. It is the process by which humans acquire the capacity to perceive and comprehend language, as well as to produce and use words and sentences to communicate. Questions are: what, when, why and how, nature vs nurture. There isn"t much of a difference between language acquisition and language development. Gestures are protolanguage in the sense that if it used a lot, and it becomes convention, it can become part of language. English has 44 phonemes = consonants + vowels. How to in ect a word to change its meaning. Production: expression of language, which can be spoken, signed, written. Comprehension: reception of language, which can be auditory, visual, tactile.
