Standardized language assessments were empirically developed for the purpose of evaluation because they established reliability and validity. They can measure children"s language abilities normed across large population (e. g. compare to same age and grade). Parent/teacher/self-report measures are rating scales, checklists, inventories and questionnaires that are administered to multiple people for a more complete pro le of the child. Example: mcdi: parents indicate on this checklist what words their children (age 0-3) know. Can be used with different populations of language learners. Can assess language outcomes following different experiences. With repeated administration, kids might be better at taking tests (practice effects)
