Marx argued that throughout history there had been a series of developmental stages (ex. primitive, etc. ). He noted a period of slave based empires, such as rome, that were followed by feudal societies. In feudalism, the landowning aristocracy has a stronghold over the production of agriculture. Those who escaped this system pursued a system of trade that expanded into an early model of capitalism. He then predicted that socialism would eventually replace capitalism after its collapse. Marx argued that capitalism"s collapse would occur after the gradual reduction in competition and the growth of monopolies and oligopolies. Marx saw feudalism as a necessity for the arrival of capitalism; marxists saw japan as an ideal example of this notion. Marx believed that feudalism lacks a centralized government. Modernity is associated with the emergence of a money based economy with hired labor. By using freudian analysis, an individual can theoretically uncover hidden biases of the author (death of the author).
