Person must have intellectual & adaptive deficits. *intellectual disability: diagnosis used to characterize people who have intellectual & adaptive deficits that first became evident when they were a child. Icd uses = intellectual disability, while the dsm-iv-tr used mental retardation. To receive diagnosis, must meet conditions that fall into three sets of criteria : deficits in general intellectual abilities (reasoning, problem solving, judgement, ability to learn from experience & learning in an academic context.
