Axon: a long, narrow outgrowth of a neuron that transmit information to other neurons. Dendrite: branchlike extensions of the neuron with receptors that detect information from other neurons. Neurons: basic unit of the nervous system; receive integrate, and transit information. Neurotransmitters: chemical substances that carry signals from one neuron to another. 3 steps of neuronal communication: transmission, reception, integration.
