Left and right brain hemispheres have distinct and clearly separate functions. The brain does not change and no new neurons form after birth: to provide a basis for judging the accuracy and usefulness of beliefs. Suggest which facts (observations) are most important as well as which relationships among these facts are most meaningful. A theory cannot easily be evaluated in terms of right or wrong. An animal"s experiences can be very carefully controlled; such is not often the case with human subjects. Most animals can reproduce many generations over a relatively shorter period. Animal mates can be selected in accordance with the experiment. They allow us to explain, predict, and perhaps control behavior. Chapter 3 answers: contiguity or reinforcement, when a behavior leads to pleasant consequences or the elimination of something unpleasant (or both). Negative punishment: when a negative contingency follows a behavior: continuous is when every desired response is reinforced.
