Ethnocentrism: what is the standard compared to all. Ethnographic fieldwork: 1 year for agriculture and season change. Multisided ethnography: local issues and compare to other issues. Culture: system of knowledge, beliefs, patterns of behaviour, artifacts and institutions that are created, learned and shared by a group of people. Norms: assumed and unspoken rules that guide behaviour. Values: set of fundamental belief about what is imperfect, should be. Symbols: a sign that stands for something else according to agreement. Synchronic: at the same time, looking at all the aspects of culture at one moment. Armchair anthropology: not going out into field, second hand information. Skeleton: norms and rules, rules of how to behaviour, laws of society, structure. Flesh and blood: everyday life how all the rules are played out, how they actually behave, relations are played out. Spirit: self commentary about their rules, thoughts, and beliefs. 1970s- critiques of colonialism change to knowledge around colonialism.
