Document Summary

Systematic approach to research that requires data to make a conclusion. Matter - anything that occupies space and has mass. Mixture - combination of 2 or more substances. Homogeneous mixture - composition of mixtures that is the same throughout. Heterogeneous mixture - composition that isn"t uniform. Substance - has definite composition and distinct properties. Compound - substance composed of atoms of two or more elements chemically united in fixed compoun separation by chemical element proportions. Be able to read a phase diagram. Critical point - top right point triple point - point where all three phases meet. Physical property - property that can be measured and observed without changing the composition or identity of a substance. Chemical property: property that can only be observed after a chemical change. Extensive property- depends on how much matter is being considered. Example: mass; can be added together if of all the same extensive property.
