Document Summary

Chapter 7: spending on the food stamp program doubled during the first obama administration, reaching. People who received additional aid under the program surely benefitted from it, but people who had to pay for the program just as surely were made worse off. Why don"t we simply have food stamps for everyone: spending on these programs rises automatically during recessions, as unemployment rises and people"s reliance on cash and noncash transfers goes up. The benefits make them better off, but their incomes are lower than if they worked, which has likely reduced postrecession economic growth. I believe poor people who don"t have the ability to feed their families should have food stamps. Depending on the family yearly income, if they have say have less than or equal to ,000- ,000 before taxes are taken out, should be given food stamps. There is a slight problem with food stamps though, it can decrease incentives for jobs that pay more.
