Document Summary

Patterns, forms, structures of good and bad reasoning. we study it to determine good from bad reasoning. A statement is something that can be true or false. A question, can be answered, a statement is something that is being told, not asked. A conditional statement is an if-then statement with an antecedent and consequent. An antecedent is the if part, the consequent is the then part. Conditional statements are false when the antecedent is true and the consequent is false. Both are wrong: it rains only if there is a cloud in the sky (true). There is a cloud in the sky, only if it rains (false). A statement and its converse can be true. Two conditional statements: if atheists are right, then god doesn"t exist. Atheists are right, if and only if god doesn"t exist. Truth is when reality is the way the statement says it is. Reality really says what the statement says is it.
