Ozone hole: carbon gasses -> degradation of protective stratospheric ozone, gasses were outlawed, atmosphere and biosphere. Acid rain: sulfuric acid, reduction in sulfuric acid emission. Environmental problems: water scarcity and drought, water pollution, pollution in the ocean, species extinction, deforestation, air pollution, greenhouse warming, extreme weather, ocean acidification. In antarctica: they reveal positive correlation between atmospheric co2 and temperature, took tubes of ice from the ground and measured the air bubbles in the ice. Odd number of negative couplings = negative feedback loop. Even number of negative couplings = positive feedback loop. Periodic change: repeats at regular intervals and amplitudes. Sudden change: a short-lived phenomenon in sudden departure from the mean, followed by a return of system to new mean state. Example: tides, length of the day, length of the year. Solid ice -> liquid at 273. 15 kelvin (k) or 0 c. Liquid -> gas at 373 kelvin(k) or 100 c.
