Sumerian city was built: the towering mesopotamian temples to the gods, cuneiform. 3: strong belief in honor, specifically in terms of his brother. We know that he has acted in a very disgraceful manner, yet he feels it to be his duty to defend his brother"s honor as he cannot do it for himself. Hoplite/phalanx: hoplite individual citizen solider, freeman, fights for his city/family; the ideal solider (hector). Pay for own weapons and armor: phalanx basic formation of the soldiers, they lock shield with one another to literally form a human tank. This allowed the smallest civilization to conquer so much so quickly. Essentially reflective of their society, as they believed they are more powerful together. The polis is more important than the individual. Keeping in mind that you are a free man, and you have the choice to participate or not.
